VOLUNTEERING
This project started as a spontaneous volunteer response to the plight of Ukrainians resulting from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine 22 February 2022.
We didn’t recruit volunteers; people just turned up and worked at receiving, sorting, packing food, first aid and clothes to go to Ukraine. In those first 6 months we registered over 140 people as volunteers. They wanted to help and found a niche in the often chaotic environment to bring order and make our work effective.
Of course, needs change and every time we needed to provide a new service like
teaching English, drama, yoga, music, dance
developing our web site or IT, doing our accounts and administration, practical maintenance and fire safety,
supervising children at play,
running our charity shop, fundraising…
… someone has turned up and said “Can I help?”
We currently have a core of about 50 volunteers, a mix of English and Ukrainian. Ukraine Welcome Centre only exists and continues because of their combined effort, good will, stamina and humour.
From time to time we need to recruit volunteers and we will publish those vacancies on this site.
